Louisville Magazine November 2013

This month’s Louisville Magazine is the education issue and it includes a wonderful interview by Anne Marshall with Meyzeek Middle School teacher Sharonda O’Bannon-Morton. I had the honor of teaching in the same school with Ms. O’Bannon several years ago and always admired her strong presence and ability to connect with all students. This article is a moving and inspiring tribute to a woman who makes a major impact in the lives of kids every single day.

I also have several illustrations in this issue. I was asked to do two pieces to accompany winners of this year’s Renau Writing Contest, which is offered each year to high school seniors. The prize includes scholarship money and the opportunity to be published by Louisville Magazine.

This piece was for “Growing Watermelons” by Will Sack, St. Xavier High School

This was for “Various Colored Veils” by Maha Jabbar, duPont Manual High School:

Mary Welp wrote about turkey legs and spiced cranberry sauce for her Dine In column:thanksgivingsmall

I also did my regular illustration for “Just Sayin”, which Jack Welch wrote about Kentucky’s Standardized Test scores:
